Logging in one more time to wake up my dormant site. Been really busy with all the aspects of my life right now. Some things have dropped out from under me and I’m finding myself trying to pick up the pieces and move forward from this point. But, when something falls away, I believe you start to see other things more clearly and that is what I am doing right now. Rubbing my eyes and seeing other opportunities I hope I can grab onto before they vaporize into thin air.

In light of all this, I started drawing for myself again. doing a lot of warmups and drawing more on instinct than for perfect proportion, perspective, etc. All the things you’re supposed to learn in school, but, for some reason, have ultimately crippled me. Not that all of that isn’t important, but I found myself focusing way too much on those details and my drawings ended up looking stiff and lifeless. This is me going back to what I know. What looks good and dynamic to me.

OK, so I haven’t logged back in for awhile. School is kicking my ass all over the place. Ironically, it’s the funnest semester I’ve had at the Academy. I get to be really creative with my projects, not just learning techniques for learning’s sake.

I have a tone of sketches to put up here, but have been too busy to scan them in. But, it’s spring break now, so I’ll be up here more. Here’s the first:

Tony & Cleo

This was me just playing around and getting used to drawing some characters for a new project I’m pencilling now. Yay me!

Did this at work last night. Somehow boredom brings out some kind of weird creative energy in me.

Angel Sketch

I did this sketch during my first class of the semester. I was “listening” to the introduction lecture which was just the same old speech every instructor gives during the first week. Needless to say I was bored. Not that the class wasn’t interesting. I think it’ll be pretty good as the semester rolls on, but for now I got time to do stuff like this.

Just had to put these extra sketches of the same characters on here. I like them better because I had gotten some more control over their characteristics when going back in to change the designs. I was also experimenting with a Micron brush pen with these.

Hello all. Welcome to my sketchblog. I’ve played around with these in the past, but never really committed to it. Now, it’s a new year and I want to get my crap together. Which is why you are seeing into this little corner of the vast interwebs now.

I am currently on break from school and, during this hiatus, I have taken on a lot of projects (as I tend to do). One of them is helping out a friend piecing together and visualizing his dream project. He aspires to being a comic book writer and the pictures below are just a couple of the characters he manipulates in his little world. I won’t say much about them other than I am using this and other opportunities to expand my skillset. Specifically I’m learning to use slightly different mediums while experimenting with these character designs as well as learning some digital coloring.

If, my dear reader, you have any beginner’s advice, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.
